There is a few memorable moments, but in my opinion that isn’t enough. What has it got in its pocketses? More games coming in May, that’s what. But Red Barrels has sadly forgotten why the first Outlast game was a success, they forgot to add the same terrifying gameplay experience from the first game. Outlast 2 is a stunning indie game who can almost compete with triple A games when it comes to graphics. Even though the cornfield era is a little terrifying. This experience might be terrifying in it’s own way, but that was not what I expected from Outlast 2. To go ahead in the game, get away from enemies, the only thing you can do is to run. The main thing I did in Outlast 2 wasn’t hiding from the enemies as the game is meant to play, but running, running, running and running. The only problem is that they forgot to add the same gameplay experience they did in the first one, instead they focused way too much on the graphics. Red Barrels did a great job in the first game, and they did have a big expectation from the community when it came to the sequel. I might think that the enemies had a GPS tracker on me, because they did know where I was at all times, even though that I was 100 percent certain that no one saw me when I was hiding.Īnd this is a big shame, as I was looking forward to the sequel. I had to ask myself multiple times when I died (you will die a lot in hard / insane mode) “Was this my fault?”. But when you start a game on either Hard or Insane get things interesting, or even a living hell and not in a terrifying way. We tried the game on normal mode first, and that did the trick if you like to play through the game for the story. I must say that the very first hour of the game was fun to play and exciting, and there was a few jump scares here and there. But from the moment after you have encountered the first enemy, everything falls apart. That’s not the case in Outlast 2, the kicks off in a positive direction with a small narrative. You could hide in closets, under the bed and more and if the “monster” didn’t see you hide you’ll get away. ![]() The first Outlast game was terrifying to play, and the gameplay mechanics worked from start to finish. Let’s talk about the gameplay experience. But sadly, the graphics is just one of the few things that is positive in Outlast 2. Same goes with sounds and music, even though the sounds might be little confusing sometimes. All the visual and textures are well made, and that helps creates the creepy feeling when walking around in Outlasts 2 world. It might look like Red Barrels attempts to compete with today’s triple A games, the graphics is that good. They have clearly done a lot of improvements and a eye for details here. Let’s talk about the graphics first, because in Outlast 2 the graphics are stunning for a small indie development team. So does the sequel deliver the same terrifying feeling and gameplay? Outlast did deliver a terrifying experience and a excellent gameplay experience. The first Outlast game was quite a surprise and a success with a lot of “fear factor”. ![]() Reviewed on: PlayStation 4 Pro (Non-Sponsored) Platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, Mac Does the sequel bring the same gameplay feeling as the first one?
